When the Sumeru region was added to Genshin Impact, it was quickly followed by a large number of game-changing characters for your roster. These characters have given both new and old teams new choices and rotations. Layla, the second Cryo shield character in the game, is one of them. She can both protect the party from damage and use Cryo consistently so that the party can move quickly.
There are three different ways to build Layla: for defense, for damage, and for something in the middle. Now, one of the best things about Genshin Impact is that you can build their characters however you want. However, Layla is best used as a shield for your party.
Layla’s First Constellation Is Vital
Layla is a good unit even if you don’t put any more money into her, but her first Constellation gives her a huge boost that you can’t ignore. Because of this, any meta team or build should have at least one C1 Layla.
Layla’s Elemental Skill, “Nights of Formal Focus,” is the most important part of her kit. It gives your party a Cryo shield whose power scales with Layla’s Max HP. This skill also makes Night Stars whenever an Elemental Skill is used by a character inside the shield. Once four have been made, they will be fired at the target as weapons, doing damage and freezing it.
Layla’s first Constellation is important for two reasons. First, it gives Nights of Formal Focus a 20 percent boost to its Shield Absorption stat, which means it can take more damage before going away. Second, when Layla uses her skill in co-op mode, any nearby party members will also be protected by a Cryo shield.
As the first part of Layla’s Constellation to be unlocked, it is an easy-to-get buff that makes Layla a better help for the party, whether she is playing alone or in co-op.
Layla’s second Constellation is also a good choice because it gives her more energy whenever a Night Star hits an enemy. Even though it’s not as important for Layla’s shield or her general role in a team, it helps keep her Elemental Burst active.
Layla Needs HP and Energy Recharge
Layla’s Elemental Skill is the most important part of her kit because it protects her and lets her use Cryo. Any build for Layla should focus on keeping that shield up as long as possible. This shouldn’t be too hard to do, since building Layla is pretty simple.
Layla’s shield is based on her HP, and the damage and burst of her Night Star depend on her ATK and CRIT stats. This means that you should focus on having a good balance of HP, ATK, Crit DMG, and Crit Rate. Also, while most characters are useful at level 80 after their third Ascension, Layla is one who needs to be at level 90 to be at her best. Layla’s last Ascension gives her a 24 percent boost to her HP. However, her base HP at level 80 is 10,324 and at level 90 it is 11,092. If you don’t max out her levels, you’re missing out on easy-to-get shield power.
Energy Recharge is something else you should remember to spend money on. This is so that you can keep Layla’s Burst up as much as possible to get more damage and application from Cryo. Whether you do this with the sub-stats on her items or with the weapon you choose, make sure you invest in it as well.
The best way to boost Layla’s defense is with the Tenacity of the Millelith artifact set. Getting a four-piece set also lets Layla help the rest of the team the most, since it boosts her ATK by 20% and her shield strength by 30%.
Also, if you want to do more damage, having two pieces from the Tenacity set and two pieces from the Blizzard Strayer set gives a good mix between her Cryo damage and her ability to protect herself.
The last choice is the Emblem of Severed Fate set. When used with the right weapon, this set makes Layla’s Elemental Burst hit harder and more often. But it gives up the natural buffs that the Tenacity set gives to her shield. Use Tenacity to make Layla the best she can be.
If you want to use Layla in a Melt team, you should also spend money on Elemental Mastery to do more damage during responses.
It is not a top stat, so it should never be chosen over HP or Energy Recharge when picking Layla’s Sands, Circlet, or Goblet. Elemental Mastery, on the other hand, should be there to get the most out of her.

Best Team Types For Layla In Genshin Impact
Layla doesn’t need to be on the field for long because of how her kit works, so you should switch to her fast when you need her Skill or Burst to do the most damage with other characters while she is off-field. Before switching to the next character in the rotation, Layla should be on the field to use her shield and start collecting Night Stars. From there, you can keep her shield up when it goes down and use her Burst when her energy is full to keep the team protected and keep using Cryo.
Permafrost Teams
Layla works best on Freeze teams. Ganyu and Ayaka get a lot of help from Layla’s extra support, and being the second Cryo character on the team gives Layla extra electro resistance and a 15% increase in critical rate. Layla keeps Ganyu safe while she aims and charges her Charged Shots. Then, when you are fighting close to Ayaka, she guards her. Layla is also useful for Hydro DPS units like Childe or Ayato, whose Skill and Burst can regularly give them the Frozen status.
Yelan and/or Xingqiu should be used on teams where Layla is an extra Cryo character. Since Layla’s shield and stars apply Cryo when they hit, and Xingqiu and Yelan both have skills that quickly apply Hydro, it’s easy to keep Freeze up. Yelan also has some crowd control, which can keep enemies inside the area of effect of Layla’s Burst. Venti, Kazuha, and Sucrose, on the other hand, are more stable and also give buffs or shred elements. The best Permafrost team has a Cryo DPS, along with either Yelan or Xingqiu, an Anemo character for Swirl and crowd control, and then Layla for Support and damage.
Layla fits well with teams like Ayaka, Yelan, and Kazuha, or Ayaka, Shenhe, and Yelan. On both teams, Ayaka and Yelan work close to each other, and Layla’s cover keeps them safe. Kazuha, on the other hand, keeps controlling crowds well with his Skill and does more damage with his Burst. Shenhe also lowers Cryo Resistance overall, which makes Layla and Ayaka’s efforts stronger.
Physical Teams
Layla can also help Superconduct on Physical teams do what they need to do. When paired with the right Electro unit, like Yae Miko or Fischl, her Night Stars and Burst can regularly lower Physical Resistance, letting the Main DPS deal the most damage possible.
She works well with Eula, Shenhe, and Shinobu, as well as with Keqing, Fischl, and Beidou. The second team’s steady Electro damage and Layla’s Night Stars combine to make a very powerful Physical Keqing. Due to Layla’s shield, Eula’s slightly slower attack animations are less of a problem, even though she has a high tolerance to being interrupted. Melt Teams
Layla can work with Pyro DPSs in Tunnel Rush game and on teams with Pyro characters, but it’s not her best skill. Here, she protects and gives extra damage to characters like Diluc or Klee, but because of how her skill works, Melt damage results can be unpredictable. But her kit is set up for strong Melt damage because her shield does Cryo damage to enemies it touches when it is activated, and the Night Stars do Cryo damage when they hit. With Layla’s Elemental Burst making it rain Cryo from above, she is easy to put on any team that wants more Cryo.
Layla is even less important in these teams, but she still does the same things. She can also be paired with Xingqiu and Yelan, who are both common members of Pryo teams. This is because she can also give Freeze responses when they are together. They are also joined by well-known Anemo units, which are used to deal damage with Swirl and keep crowds in check.
Melt teams with Hu Tao, Yelan, and Xingqiu or Ganyu, Xiangling, and Xingqiu are strong. In the first team, Layla’s shield gets stronger because her HP goes up because of the Hydro elements resonance. This is because Layla gives Freeze and Melt to a team that usually focuses on Vaporize. Xiangling’s Skill and Burst, along with Ganyu’s, provide constant Melt damage, while Layla adds more Cryo damage and protection.
