What is avi tag
Avi-tag is a short peptide tag consisting of 15 amino acid residues, which can be linked to a biotin on a lysine residue by biotin ligase (BirA) in vivo or in vitro, so as to realize protein of biotinylation. Biotin has a strong affinity with avidin/streptavidin, and the affinity constant of the two is even 100,000-1 million times higher than that of the antigen-antibody reaction, which is the highest known non-covalent interaction, using this characteristic biotin-labeled protein can be applied to protein fixation, purification and imaging, etc. Due to these advantages of biotin labeling, AviTag technology has been widely used.
