Resident Evil has a lot going for it, and it’s clear that these games were inspired by it.
When the first Resident Evil game came out, everything changed. Even though the conversation was silly, people liked the game. This was mostly because of the great mix of survival horror. It was a big deal to see who could stay alive against the zombies, and sometimes to see who could do it the fastest.
So it shouldn’t be a surprise that many games have been inspired by the Resident Evil series over the years, or that this is likely to have happened. The game was so popular that after it came out, a whole series of similar games were made. There are, of course, a lot of survival horror games that were inspired by the first one.
Devil May Cry
Almost everyone who plays video games knows the story behind the Devil May Cry series. Before the team decided to go in a different way, the original Devil May Cry and, by extension, its awesome characters were being made as Resident Evil 4.
Because of this, it’s clear that a lot of the series was influenced by how Resident Evil 4 and later games focused more on action. It’s a very stylized game set in a dull world, and even though it’s an action game first, the demons probably got their ideas from those in Resident Evil.
Dead Space
Whether you know it or not, a lot of people think that the first Dead Space game is just a copy of Resident Evil 4. Even though it takes place in space, Dead Space has a lot of the same action-based fear as Resident Evil 4.
You could say that Dead Space is more about fear, but there aren’t many times when you feel like you have no control. Even though the team added a few of their own quirks, the exciting third-person gameplay will definitely remind you of RE4.
Dino Crisis
Dino Crisis was partly made by Shinji Mikami, one of the main people behind the Resident Evil series, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that it was based on that game. The series has dinosaurs instead of zombies, but it still has all the same thrills and scares.
Dino Crisis even has things like secret operations, hidden buildings, and a lot of survival horror that remind me of the early Resident Evil games. If you liked Resident Evil but didn’t see this series, you should try it.
Parasite Eve
At first glance, Parasite Eve might look like a totally different game, but in fact, some parts of it feel like Resident Evil if the fighting was turned into an RPG. Fans of RE will love Parasite Eve because it has a story that is both bold and grown up.
Realistically, the new features in Parasite Eve will appeal to people who like classic Resident Evil but wish it had more to do in terms of gameplay. Even if some people wouldn’t call it a horror title, the story and events are dark and give it a horror feel.
The Evil Within
This is another great game that should feel familiar to people who liked Resident Evil, since Shinji Mikami was in charge of making it. The Evil Within has all of the hopeless horror you could want, and it also makes things very hard.
At times, the game feels like it took a lot of ideas from the Silent Hill series, but it still has that familiar Resident Evil charm. The Evil Within is a great game to play if you want a stronger horror experience, and it even has a sequel.
Silent Hill
Silent Hill and Resident Evil are two of the scariest game series, so it’s hard not to compare them all the time. Even though other games have since made references to it, it’s possible that the first Silent Hill was heavily influenced by Resident Evil and tried to be even scarier.
It’s bad to be stuck in a house, but it might be much worse to be stuck in a town that’s always foggy and has even fewer people. If you liked RE, you’ll feel right at home with Silent Hill, even though it can be a bit scarier.
Cold Fear
Cold Fear is a strange but fun secret gem that many people haven’t seen. It takes parts from many popular games to make something that feels like an early version of Resident Evil: Revelations.
In this survival horror game from 2005, you have to fight zombies on a ship. The influence should be clear from the description, but Cold Fear also tries to be different from other games of the time by making a lot of different choices.
Galerians
After Resident Evil came out, there were a lot of games that most people thought were copies. Galerians is one of those games. Even though the story and some of the ideas are pretty original, the whole time it will feel like Resident Evil.
The best parts are that the psychic plot gives the action a unique feel, and the story may surprise you with how much you enjoy it. Even though this Funny Shooter game took a lot of ideas from Resident Evil, it did a good job of being its own thing.
Deep Fear
Since it was only for the Sega Saturn and never came out in North America, most people probably missed it. It has all the research centers and infected animals that made Resident Evil famous.
Since the sick creatures are mutants, it’s probably safe to say that the game was going for a more sci-fi feel. It does have some original ideas for survival horror, but you won’t be surprised by too many things.
Extermination
Both the story and the way the game is put together feel like they were influenced by Resident Evil. Survival horror is a big part of the game, so it’s again a good idea to do what you can to save life and ammo.
Extermination, like a lot of other movies, uses the idea of a secret research center to set up a bunch of zombie-like creatures. This game does build on Resident Evil’s ideas by adding an interesting way to deal with infections, which some fans of the series might find to be a fun new task.
