You may find that your fears are keeping you from taking the best possible steps forward in your work. There’s a lot to be afraid of when it comes to marketing and fundraising: failure, success, disappointment and being judged by others. Even change can cause anxiety!

But what if instead of letting those fears stop you from doing what needs done–or even worse–making bad decisions because of them? What if instead of avoiding these things altogether, we could learn how use our fears as fuel for making better choices?

Don’t be afraid of the unknown.

It’s okay to be afraid of the unknown. It can be scary, and it’s natural for us to want to avoid it as much as possible. But remember that the unknown is not necessarily bad; sometimes it’s a new opportunity or chance to learn something new. The next time you’re faced with an unfamiliar situation in your work life, try approaching it as an opportunity rather than something that needs fixing immediately. You might discover something amazing!

Use the power of networking and relationships.

The best way to build your network is through social media. It’s also the most accessible, since you can connect with people all over the world. But it’s not enough just to connect–you want those connections to be meaningful and helpful for both sides, so take the time and effort necessary to ensure that they are.

If you don’t have access to social media or don’t feel comfortable using it (which is totally fine!), then make sure that you’re making personal connections with others in your community as well. Join clubs or organizations where people share common interests, get involved in local events like parties or festivals, volunteer at a local charity organization or political campaign–the list goes on! The more people who know who you are and what your mission is, the better chance of success when someone needs help from one of them later down the line!

Find a community of peers who can help you succeed.

One of the most important things you can do to succeed as a nonprofit is to find a community of peers who can help you. It’s so important, in fact, that I’m going to repeat it: find a community of peers who can help you succeed!

Finding a community is not always easy–especially if your organization is new or small. But it’s worth making an effort because finding other people like yourself will help keep you motivated and on track with your goals, plus it increases the likelihood that someone else will have experience with similar issues as yours so they can provide advice or guidance when needed. If this sounds like something that would benefit your organization (and I hope it does!), here are some tips for connecting with other nonprofits:

  • Attend local networking events where nonprofits meet up regularly (e.g., monthly happy hours). These events give newbies an opportunity to get acquainted with each other before diving right into discussions about strategy or fundraising challenges; plus they provide another layer between “stranger” and “friend,” which makes everyone feel more comfortable talking openly about their work!

Do your research before starting a campaign or initiative.

Before you start a campaign or initiative, it’s important to do your research. This means knowing who your audience is, what they want and need from you, and how much time and money they’re willing to spend on what you’re offering them.

It also means knowing how successful other nonprofits in similar situations have been in reaching their own goals. If there are other organizations with similar goals who have been able to achieve success with less resources than yours (or more), then maybe there’s something else at play here–like the fact that they’ve done some serious thinking about what they wanted out of this project before jumping headfirst into it!

In addition, researching options allows us as marketers at non-profits like The Salvation Army Greater New York Divisional Headquarters (GNYD) see which tactics would be most effective for our organization given our budget constraints: Do we want banners? What size should those banners be? How many locations should each banner go up at? How long will each location get its respective banner displayed before being replaced by another one? Where can we get free advertising space so long as there’s enough room left over after paying all those bills?!
